UK COVID-19 variant detected in Allegheny County, health department confirms – WTAE Pittsburgh

The Allegheny County Health Department announced Wednesday that the first case of the UK COVID-19 variant has been detected in the county. “This week the Pennsylvania Department of Health notified us that they had detected the UK variant in a sample sent for testing from Allegheny County,” Allegheny County Health Department Director Dr. Debra Bogen said during her weekly news conference on Wednesday. The Health Department said the person does not know how they contracted the variant. Bogen said this is the first and only case of the variant reported in Allegheny County thus far. However, Bogen said she suspected that it has been present in the county for a while.
