Second case of highly contagious COVID-19 variant identified in New Mexico – KOAT New Mexico

The New Mexico Department of Health announced on Monday that a second COVID-19 case with the B.1.1.7 variant was found in the state.The woman is in her 30s, experiencing mild symptoms and will not require hospitalization, the state health department said.“We know how to protect each other — but we have to act on what we know,” Health Secretary-Designate Dr. Tracie Collins said. “We also have to get vaccinated as quickly as supplies allow.”Health department officials said the woman had close household contact with the first case that was announced on Wednesday.
