Rite Aid now offering COVID-19 vaccinations at its Michigan stores – MLive.com

Rite Aid is now offering COVID-19 vaccinations at its stores in five states, including Michigan, through a direct federal program that will provide about 100 doses to each participating location per week.

The company is among the first to participate in the Federal Retail Pharmacy Program, which will allocate vaccine doses directly to pharmacies for distribution based on state and local eligibility requirements.

Rite Aid expects the initial 100 doses per week per store to increase over time. The company will start by providing doses to over half of its locations in California, Michigan, New Jersey, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Philadelphia and New York City. The goal is to provide vaccinations in all its locations when supply becomes available.

“Initially, vaccine appointments will still be difficult to schedule at any provider,” said Rite Aid president and CEO Heyward Donigan. “However, we expect to see availability of the vaccine improve over time, and Rite Aid stands ready to administer as many vaccines as we are allocated quickly, safely and efficiently.”

The company anticipates demand to outpace supply for the “foreseeable future.”
