Iowa DPH reports 131,500 completed vaccinations statewide – KCCI Des Moines

ERIC: IT IS NOW 6:34. HAPPENING TODAY, PRESIDENT JOE BIDEN IS EXPECTED TO UNVEIL A $4 BILLION GLOBAL CORONAVIRUS VACCINE PLAN. THE ANNOUNCEMENT WILL HAPPEN DURING THE PRESIDENT’S FIRST MEETING WITH G7 LEADERS LATER THIS MORNING. ACCORDING TO THE WHITE HOUSE, HE IS GOING TO ASK THOSE NATIONS TO PLEDGE MONEY TOWARD INTERPERSONAL VACCINATIONS. THE UNITED STATES’ CONTRIBUTIONS WERE APPROPRIATED BY CONGRESS AS PART OF THAT DECEMBER STIMULUS PACKAGE. AS OF THIS MORNING, 57 MILLION DOSES OF THE VACCINE HAVE BEEN ADMINISTERED IN THE UNITED STATES. MORE THAN 500,000 OF THEM WERE GIVEN IN IOWA. MORE THAN 266,000 IOWANS HAVE RECEIVED THEIR FIRST DOSE OF THE CORONAVIRUS VACCINE. 131,000 HAVE RECEIVED BO DOSES. SOME IOWA DOCTORS URGE PEOPLE NOT TO LET THEIR GUARD DOWN, WHEN THE STATE’S POSITIVITY RATES FALL THIS WEEK. THAT DROP IS GOING TO BE THE RESULT OF A CHANGE IN THE WAY THAT STATE HEALTH OFFICIALS REPORT THEIR TESTING DATA. STARTING TODAY THE IOWA , DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC HEALTH WILL BEGIN REPORTING THE NUMBER OF TESTS ADMINISTERED OVERALL INSTEAD OF THE NUMBER OF IOWANS , TESTED. KCCI provides a daily snapshot of the past 24 hours of statistics.As of 10 a.m. Friday, the Iowa DPH website reports 331,622 confirmed cases statewide since Iowa’s outbreak began, with an additional 558 cases confirmed in the past 24 hours. The Iowa DPH reported 15 additional COVID-19 deaths, raising the statewide death toll to 5,336.Of Iowa’s pandemic-related deaths, COVID-19 is reported as the underlying cause for 4,803 deaths. For 533 Iowans, COVID-19 was a contributing factor to their deaths.The website said 4,910 of the state’s deaths involved Iowans with preexisting conditions.Of the state’s confirmed cases, 307,596 Iowans recovered.According to the Iowa DPH vaccination dashboard, 508,648 COVID-19 vaccines have been administered to Iowans.The dashboard reports that 266,445 individuals received their first of the vaccine, while 131,500 have completed vaccination.Additional vaccination data can be found here.According to the state’s website, a total of 1,534,377 individuals received COVID-19 tests. Iowa’s average reported positivity rate is 5.1% over the last 14 days.Iowa DPH reports 241 hospitalizations, of which 60 patients are in intensive care units. Iowa hospitals admitted 43 patients in the last 24 hours, compared to 52 hospitalizations the day before. The Iowa DPH reports 24 COVID-19 outbreaks among long-term care facilities in the state, accounting for 675 of Iowa’s current positive cases. COVID-19 outbreaks at long-term care facilities account for 2,137 of the state’s total deaths. Of Iowa’s 99 counties, only Adair County reports a 14-day positivity rate at or above 15%.
